Remember, this is an Obama thesis stock (infrastructure) - it certainly is breaking out so I am going to keep about half the position. We doubled down our position on Dec 31st in the $47s and just a few days later we have $54.60s. That's 15% right quick (this was our 2nd largest long position com...

I am hitting the rip chord for the first time on some of the "thesis" plays. We have the Chinese thesis, the infrastructure thesis, and the housing recovery thesis. None of these we "believe" in but hedge funds have been running them up.All 3 charts are now entering "do or die", they have fallen b...

Much has been written over the past week regarding Obama’s infrastructure stimulus proposal. Naturally, investors are flocking to well known construction companies like Fluor Corporation (FLR) and Chicago Bridge & Iron Company N.V. (CBI) or to engineering firms like Jacobs Engineering Group Inc....

Mother Mia - this market is willing to look over anything. The biggest scandal to hit Wall Street in years means nothing to these bulls!A Wall Street powerbroker for nearly 50 years who built an influential firm has confessed to a massive fraud scheme that will cost investors at least $50 billion,...

Ironically there is a great role reversal as commodities/global growth have taken over what financials/housing/retail was in spring and summer 2008. That is, a very hated group that after being sold relentlessly enjoyed enormous short term bounces. We are now in day 3 of the "Obama will save us with...

GAINS NOT LIMITED TO EXPOSURE TO STIMULUS PLAN
Enthusiasm for the incoming presidential administration’s newly unveiled stimulus plan has sent U.S. equities shooting higher in Monday’s trading session, extending the gains banked in Friday’s rally. The S&P 500 moved back above the 900-point mark,...

Back in the old days, we used to look at individual companies, sectors... analyze industry data points, do comparative valuation analysis, read earnings reports with great interest, etc etc. Those were good times. Now, we wait every day for 3 PM, play a bunch of ETFs for a 1 hour trade, and then t...

UTILITY BUILDERS COMBINE DISTASTE, DISAPPOINTMENT

We don't own any of these global engineering stocks at this moment, because effectively the market has chased us out of the names. We closed out of Jacobs Engineering in early September in the mid $60s; within 6 week it had fallen below $30. It is really quite sad to see the stocks performance whe...

We've added quite a few names the past few weeks, especially healthcare (and retail I suppose), as we "turn" the direction of the fund. I have a lot of 0.1% type of positions in the fund which are "holding stakes" waiting for better action in the stocks - I do this so I don't have to constantly say...

Nothing new to add here, I am cutting Flowserve (FLS) as it bumps against the 50 day moving average; it is actually holding up quite well the past few days so perhaps its trying to signal it is ready to escape the clutches of the "global growth is dead" trade. But I shoot first and ask questions la...
